Eight Admitted to Candidacy for Holy Orders 12/14/2015

Eight men publically declared their commitment to a program of formation for service to God and to the Catholic Church as ordained ministers on the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

“This is analogous to the engagement of a married couple. It elevates our level of commitment as we wear our clerics and go before the altar, the archbishop and the Church and take this very significant step toward the ordained priesthood,” said Andrew Reckers, one of four from the Archdiocese of Cincinnati admitted to Candidacy.

The Catholic Church, through Archbishop Dennis Schnurr, publically accepted the aspirants into the ranks of the candidates for Holy Orders. In his homily, the archbishop encouraged the candidates to look to the Blessed Mother as a role model.

“The angel Gabriel assures Mary that ‘nothing will be impossible for God;’ all things are possible for those who give themselves unreservedly to God’s plan,” noted Archbishop Schnurr. “Mary entrusts her life completely into the hands of God: ‘Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord.’ Mary models for us the one thing that Jesus could not.  Mary models for us how to be a perfect disciple of Jesus.”

Family, friends, and members of the Athenaeum community were present for celebration of the Mass and Rite held on the patronal feast day of Mount St. Mary’s Seminary.
