MTSM Hosts Dr. Michael Naughton for LeBlonde Lecture
11.15.24Mount St. Mary’s Seminary & School of Theology (MTSM) welcomed Dr. Michael Naughton, the Director of the Center for Catholic Studies at the University of St. Thomas in Saint Paul, Minnesota, for its annual LeBlonde Fall Lecture on Wednesday (November 13) evening.
Dr. Naughton’s lecture was entitled ‘The Story of Catholic Education: Renewing our Schools’, which, through the prism of the history of Catholic education, showed how Catholic education was established and evolved over different eras and what can be done to strengthen and revitalize Catholic Educational institutions.
Beginning from the ancient societies prior to the time of Jesus to the present day, Dr. Naughton’s presentation discussed why and how the first educational institutions were formed and their missions and how they evolved over the forthcoming eras. Getting to present day and education’s rupture from the primacy of faith and reason to reason alone and the primacy of action over contemplation.
To conclude, Dr. Naughton discussed the importance of having and strengthening roots of education and how those involved in Catholic education, from ordained ministers to teachers to parents, can help contribute to that.
