Dr. Holman Performs Organ Recital at MTSM
01.24.26
Christopher Holman, DPhil, Mount St. Mary’s Seminary & School of Theology’s (MTSM) Director of Music, performed his program for organ ‘Visions of Eternity’ on MTSM’s Pasi Opus 29 organ on January 11 in the Chapel of St. Gregory the Great.
Dr. Holman’s program reflected the rich history of keyboard and eventually organ music, beginning with a piece called Estampie from the Robertsbridge Codex from 14th Century England. The program continued from there throughout history, including pieces by Hans Kotter, Girolamo Frescobaldi, Dieterich Buxtehude, Sor Maria Clara de Oaxaca, Giacomo Puccini, Charles-Marie Widor, Olivier Messiaen and the world premiere of an ‘Ave Maria’ by British composer Caitlin Harrison Crane. Dr. Holman finished the recital with ‘Fantasia in G Major “Piece d’orgue”, BWV 572 by Johann Sebastian Bach.
The next Music & Liturgy event at MTSM will be on Sunday, February 15, an Organ Recital with Solemn Vespers. The organ recital will begin at 6:30 p.m. and be performed by Matthew Geerlings, Director of Music at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Peter in Chains in Cincinnati. Solemn Vespers will begin at 7 p.m., featuring the Athenaeum Chorale and Mount St. Mary’s Latin Schola. The evening will feature baroque music from the Americas, including Mexico, Bolivia and Peru.
