Dr. Mikail Whitfield Promoted to Associate Professor

Following the recommendations of the Mount St. Mary’s Seminary & School of Theology (MTSM) Faculty Affairs Committee, Mikail Whitfield, Ph.D. has been promoted to the rank of Associate Professor of Liturgy and Sacraments, MTSM President/Rector the Vey Rev. Anthony R. Brausch has announced.
Dr. Whitfield joined MTSM as Assistant Professor in Fall 2022, teaching courses in systematic and sacramental theology across the School of Theology, Seminary formation and the permanent deacon formation program.
“It is always wonderful to have your hard work recognized by your peers,” Dr. Whitfield said. “The work of the intellectual formation of future priests has such a paramount role in the future of the Church, to be affirmed for doing it well strengthens one to continue this august pursuit with fervor and care.”
Following completion of his Ph.D. in theology from Ave Maria University in 2018 (where he also received his Master’s in theology), Dr. Whitfield served as a visiting professor at the University of Saint Thomas in Houston and Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas. He received his bachelor’s degree from Franciscan University of Steubenville.
His research interests include sacramental theology, liturgy, marriage and Theology of the Body and Thomistic theology.
