MTSM Announces 2022-2023 Pastoral Internships
08.29.22Mount St. Mary’s Seminary & School of Theology (MTSM) announces the Pastoral Internships for seminarians for the 2022-2023 academic year.
This year seven men will participate in a Pastoral Internship from August through May. Interns have completed II Theology and typically have been in formation for two to six years. Depending on the requirements of their individual diocese or religious order, seminarians take part in a year-long, full immersion experience in a parish as part of their formation.
“The Pastoral Internship Program enables seminarians to take the knowledge they’ve gained in Seminary and apply it in real life situations,” said Rev. Eric Wood, Director of Apostolic Works & Internship Program at MTSM. “It’s an opportunity for seminarians to really engage in the life of a parish and to further discern their vocation as future priests.”
Adam Berning, who is in his third year of Theology, explained that his Pastoral Internship last year allowed him the opportunity to focus on the areas of pastoral and human formation “in a unique way.”
“Spending the year in a parish allowed me to encounter the day-to-day life of a priest firsthand, all the while affording me the opportunity to apply the many things I have learned at MTSM,” Berning shared.
Travis Kahle, who will be on Pastoral Internship this year, is excited to connect the theory and ideas learned at MTSM with the daily reality of parish activities.
“I’m looking forward to utilizing the formation and habits of prayer I learned at the Seminary and applying them in the parish setting under the guidance of a priest mentor,” Kahle said. “I hope this year reveals the areas in which I need the most growth and inspires me to grow in these areas when I return to MTSM next year.”
