MTSM Board of Trustees Welcomes New Members

Over the past two years, the Mount St. Mary’s Seminary & School of Theology Board of Trustees has seen multiple changes with many newcomers and departures.
New Board of Trustees members over the past two years include Mr. Michael P. Dunn, The Most Rev. Earl K. Fernandes, S.T.D., Mr. Thomas A. Haverkos and Mr. Matthew A. Sokany. Members whose term on the Board concluded at end of the last academic year include Mr. Terence L. Horan, Mr. Gregory A. Ionna and Mr. Thomas G. Wimberg.
Dunn was appointed to the Board prior to the current academic year, and is the Chief Financial Officer and Partner at Liberty Hill Equity Partners. He also held several roles at Procter & Gamble for more than 20 years. He has served MTSM on the Board’s Strategic Planning Committee since 2011.
Dunn and his wife Margaret are parishioners at Guardian Angels in Mount Washington. They have three children.
Bishop Fernandes, the Bishop of Columbus, was appointed to the Board in the fall. A graduate of MTSM and ordained for the Archdiocese of Cincinnati in 2002. He was the Dean of the Athenaeum of Ohio and Mount St. Mary’s Seminary from 2008-16 and was assigned to the Staff of the Apostolic Nunciature in Washington D.C. for three years. He returned to Cincinnati in 2019 and served as pastor of St. Ignatius of Loyola in Monfort Heights until his installation as the Bishop of Columbus on May 31, 2022.
Since becoming with Bishop of Columbus, Bishop Fernandes has begun sending seminarians to Mount St. Mary’s Seminary for their formation, with 10 currently enrolled in various stages of formation at MTSM.
Another appointment beginning this academic year, Haverkos is the President of Danis Construction, a regional company based in Dayton. He has been with the company for 40 years, ever since his graduation from the University of Cincinnati.
Haverkos and his wife Celeste are parishioners at St. John the Evangelist in West Chester. They have four adult children.
Sokany was appointed to the Board of Trustees in January 2023 and chairs the Board Development Committee. He spent the majority of his career in Marketing with Johnson & Johnson, primarily related to Ethicon Endo-Surgery in Blue Ash, Ohio. After leaving J&J, Sokany worked with a number of medical start-up companies, including becoming the President and CEO of Standard Bariatrics.
Sokany and his wife Michele Macedonio are parishioners at St. Columban and St. Margaret of York parishes. They have two children and one grandchild.
Horan joined the Board of Trustees during the 2009-10 academic year. He is the President and CEO of Horan Wealth, the successor of a company his father began more than 75 years ago.
Horan has served the Greater Cincinnati community in many roles including the board of the Dan Beard Council of Boy Scouts of America, the Children’s Home of Cincinnati and the University of Cincinnati Economics Center. Additionally, he has served as President or Chairman of the boards of St. Xavier High School, March of Dimes and the 2021 ArtsWave Campaign.
Horan and his wife Christy are members of St. Xavier parish in Downtown Cincinnati; they have seven children and eight grandchildren.
Ionna also joined the MTSM Board of Trustees in 2009-10. He is the retired President & CEO of the CM Paula Company. Before that, Ionna was in leadership at Gibson Greetings. He has been chair of MTSM’s Board Development Committee and was instrumental in the success of MTSM’s Investing in Our Future, Preserving Our Legacy capital campaign and other fundraising efforts.
Ionna and his wife Gloria are members of St. Columban Parish. They have four children and 12 grandchildren.
Wimberg joined the MTSM Board of Trustees during the 2008-09 academic year. Wimberg served on the Finance Committee during his board tenure. He spent his entire career at Deloitte Tax, serving as a Director of the Firm. He retired from the firm in 2020 with more than 39 years of service.
Wimberg and his wife Brenda are long-time members of Our Lord Christ the King Parish. They have three grown sons and enjoy an active retirement hiking and biking during their travels.
