MTSM Priest Faculty Receive New Appointments
08.15.22The Most Rev. Dennis Schnurr, Archbishop of Cincinnati, approved new appointments for two existing faculty members at Mount St. Mary’s Seminary & School of Theology (MTSM). Rev. Chris Geiger was appointed to Vice-Rector and Director of Formation and Rev. Eric Wood was appointed to Director of Apostolic Works & Internship Program. Both assumed their new roles July 1, 2022.
“We are excited to have Rev. Geiger and Rev. Wood in these roles,” said Rev. Anthony R. Brausch, Ph.D., President & Rector at MTSM. “Their work is important in helping seminarians engage in their formation to create a strong foundation and I am confident they will add great value and guidance as they transition into their new positions.”
Prior to his new appointment, Fr. Geiger served as the Director of Apostolic Works and the Internship Program and was a member of the Formation Team. He received his Master of Divinity and Master of Biblical Studies from MTSM in 2016 and also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Cincinnati. This summer, Fr. Geiger completed his Licentiate in Canon Law from Catholic University of America. He served at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton and St. Andrew in Milford before joining the MTSM faculty in 2020.
“With every new assignment I’ve had as a priest, there has been a mixture of both excitement and trepidation,” said Fr. Geiger. “I love MTSM, and it is an honor to work with the faculty and seminarians here. I hope to serve well in this role and I’m eager to see what good things the Lord has in store; I also pray every day that He gives me the grace I need.”
Prior to his new appointment, Fr. Wood was an instructor of Moral Theology and a member of the Formation Team. He received his Master of Divinity from MTSM in 2015 and his Bachelor of Arts from Franciscan University of Steubenville. Fr. Wood also holds his Licentiate in Sacred Theology from Alphonsian Academy in Rome. Prior to studying in Rome, Fr. Wood served at St. Philip the Apostle Parish in Morrow and St. Francis de Sales Parish in Lebanon.
“I am grateful to be asked to take on this new role at the Seminary, and pray that I fulfill its tasks well,” said Fr. Wood. “Our focus is to create opportunities that prepare our seminarians for their future ministries as priests. Our Field Education and Internship programs play an important part in this as it gives them time to interact with people outside the Seminary community who may come from very different backgrounds as they do.”
