Works by Palestrina, celebrating the 500th anniversary of his birth
On October 5, 2025, Mount St. Mary’s Seminary & School of Theology will celebrate Solemn Vespers at 7 p.m., preceded by an organ recital at 6:30 p.m. in the Chapel of St. Gregory the Great. The Vespers will conclude with a choral selection featuring works by the eminent renaissance composer Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina, in recognition of the 500th anniversary of his birth, featuring motets from his rarely-performed Canticum Canticorum, settings of verses from Song of Songs, each of which serves as a meditation on the lectionary readings of the day. The pre-vespers organ recital will be performed by Dr. Stella O’Neill, Director of Music at St. Rose of Lima Church in Cincinnati’s East End.
Admission is free and open to the public.
